A neighborhood composed of large arts and entertainments venues near the core of Dallas, Texas. The name Deep Ellum was based on a corruption of the area’s principal thoroughfare, Elm Street. It is the Southern-ese for Deep Elm which was the original name of the neighborhood. It was used to be a mecca for jazz and blues artists way back 1920s. Deep Ellum boasts its hip and thriving nightlife scene, art galleries, delectable and unique shops.
One of Dallas’ first commercial districts for African-American immigrants, Deep Ellum. Has been one of the most historically significant neighborhoods in the city. Deep Ellum was established in 1873 as both a commercial and residential neighborhood. The district boasts over 20 historically recognized buildings and it grew to become the largest cotton-processing equipment in the United States.
Deep Ellum’s openly vibrant and warm environment led to a very large influx of European immigrants staking their claim on the neighborhood. Opened pawn shops, bars grocery stores, tailor shops, and so much more to everyone, including African-American customers.

You will not believe that the best BBQ joint in the entire state is located in Deep Ellum. Pecan Lodge located at 2702 Main, Dallas, TX has the awards to back up their claims being the best. Dozens of people lining the walls and shelves just to grab their mouthwatering smoky arts.
If you are looking for something a little more well-heeled, try checking out Stirr. It is a famous local spot because of its buzzy neighborhood bar and restaurant vibe while eating high-end comfort food you have been craving for and washing it down with craft cocktails.
Experience Live Music
Catch some great music from various live music venues and barks within Deep Ellum. Addair’s Saloon is one of the best beer, burger, and live music joints in the area. From front to back, the site is covered with so much memorabilia.
The Church is also one of Dallas’ most unique and eclectic nightclub experiences. Music selections such as ambient sound, EBM, neo-gothic music. The space features five lounges and a rooftop patio to just dance the night away.
Art in Deep Ellum
Far from being ordinary, the performing arts scene in Deep Ellum is experimental and underground. Watch comedy at Dallas Comedy House, improv at Ad Libs or Undermain Theater.
